On Thursday I heard that Atarah Ben Tovim, the flute teacher who taught me at Huddersfield School of Music from 1975 to '77, has died.
This is sad news. The last time I saw Atarah was in 2009 at the British Flute Convention in Manchester. She commissioned a piece from me - Chinese Steps - for flute choir.
Here's a clip of her (with Robin Hill on guitar):
As a teacher she was brilliant although, sometimes, completely honest and forthright. As an encourager, unparalleled.
A short piano piece in memoriam:

A heartfelt tribute to a gifted teacher and musician whose dedication and sincerity have positively shaped many lives. Her journey reflects the spirit of the Everest Expedition, where each step requires courage, patience, and strong determination, ultimately leading to a deeply meaningful sense of achievement and lasting inspiration.
Such a touching tribute to a gifted teacher and musician whose dedication and sincerity made a lasting difference in so many lives. Her inspiring journey and gentle spirit feel much like the sacred Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, where every moment brings peace, wisdom, and deep reflection.
A heartfelt tribute and beautiful remembrance of a talented teacher and musician. Her passion and honesty clearly left a lasting impact on many lives, just like the calm and inspiring journey through Langtang Valley, where nature also teaches patience and reflection.
This piece was beautifully written and carried a strong sense of depth and reflection. The narrative style invites the reader to slow down and truly engage with the subject. I recently read a reflective article while browsing service-focused insights related to https://www.goprogaragedoorrepair.com/, and it reminded me how storytelling adds lasting value. A compelling and thoughtful post.
This post offered a thoughtful and engaging perspective, with a clear narrative that kept the reader interested throughout. The way the topic was explained made it easy to reflect on its deeper meaning. I recently saw a similar discussion on a review blog where https://samedaydiplomas.com/ was briefly mentioned as part of broader educational conversations, which aligned well with the reflective tone of your article. A genuinely enjoyable and well-crafted read.
